If you feel that the initial price of $ 1,299 iMac is too high, you're lucky ... to a degree. Apple has launched a new 21-inch iMac that lowers the cost of entry to a more suitable $ 1.099 (£ 899 in the UK). As you would expect, though, there are a few catches involved in saving that much cash. To begin with, you get a low voltage, the same Core i5 1.4GHz processor you find in the MacBook Air - it's not a big group by. You also have to make do with a 500GB hard disk, although you can spring for a 1TB disk (including Fusion Drive) or 256GB solid-state drive. This move will not please those who wish to refresh the full line of iMac, but that may not happen until Intel launches desktop class processors Broadwell. This system will mostly be of interest to schools and others who want a complete desktop Apple for the lowest possible price.
